Electric!

Whistler, British Columbia

  • Got up and took a stroll around the campground (every time we pass by the park’s cafe, we salivate a little over the thought of their breakfast sandwich, avocado toast and pizzas)

  • Caught up with Sarah

  • Realized that we missed a big opportunity for free firewood that was left by campers that checked out in the morning; an Ube look a like came to pick up the remaining stacks in his golf cart

  • On our way out from the park, we were flagged down by a little old Korean lady; her husband was at work, she had a flat tire and needed to get to Whistler for her shift at a souvenir shop; we gave her a lift and Liz hopped in the back seat with Oslo; Matt made small talk along the way and we learned Cindy and her husband Paul met U.S. Korean at their church, moved to Canada and have been her for 16 years, now living in Pemberton; her husband is a sushi chef and skiing instructor; when we dropped her off, she insisted we take her spicy shrimp chips - we gave them a try, but they were not our cup of tea; we were hoping her husband would bring us sushi instead

  • Went into Whistler Village and walked around with Oslo; watched the hard core downhill mountain bikers tear up the trails (and wait in horrendously long lines for the chair lift);

  • The village center had every outdoor apparel shop we could ever need (Smartwool, Lulu, Patagonia)

  • The candy store pulled us in; Liz picked out a few pieces to try while Matt and Oslo waited outside; when it was Matt’s turn, he lost any remaining self control he previously had and filled the bag with various sour gummies

  • Drive over to Lost Lake and parked in the pick up / drop off zone since street parking was over a mile away; the beach was crowded; there were colonies of black tadpoles near shore; we walked over to the Canine Cove to let Oslo cool off and play with several other dogs

  • Went back to the camper to take a quick nap; Matt woke Liz up with good cause - Jody had sent us a sneak peek gallery of our wedding photos

  • There were giant flying ants everywhere - gross

  • Cheakamus Lake trail was closed due to bear activity, so we rode the Sea to Sky - Cheakamus trail (mostly gravel double tracks with lots of ups and downs; had to walk uphill several times due to tired legs and a thumping heart; trail ended at a suspension bridge)

  • When we got there, we noticed that Liz’s bike was vibrating and could feel and electric current pulling throughout; it took a minute to realize it was caused by the power lines above us

  • Made Mexican bowls for dinner
