Washington cherries
Monroe, Washington
We went for our morning walk around the campground and scoped out their mini golf course. We finally got to use our Keurig and properly caffeinate to start our day with the electric hookup.
We went to the Skykomish River to fish, but first stopped at a little farmer’s stand on the side of the road after the “$3 cherries” sign caught our attention. We picked up a carton of tart red cherries and continued on our way.
Several of the spots we hoped to fish were newly marked with signs prohibiting parking and river access. We started at the Big Eddy river access point where several other people enjoyed swimming and picnics under the hot summer sun. We fished near the railroad bridge with no luck. We later walked across the bridge to try fishing on the other side of the river, but it was private property.
We moved and parked at a random pull off on the side of the road with an easy climb down to the river. The water looked promising, but we only caught a few small trout and a garter snake that was sitting in the water flowing between the boulders. Liz hooked it in the side, so maybe we actually saved its life as it was on the verge of drowning.
We went back to camp a little early, attempted to do laundry (out of order) and played in the pool - it was the perfect temperate and the pool area was well maintained with a recreation pool, lap pool, kids pool and hot tub. Matt picked up the firewood to finish off the steaks and Liz ran into town to get garbanzo beans for the Greek salad and other items to last us for the rest of the trip. Best steak ever. Definitely over ate.
