Catchin’ popcorn
Monroe, Washington > Spokane, Washington
We woke up early, had breakfast, dumped and got on the road. We stopped in Monroe at a local tire shop right as they were opening for the day to have the Imagine’s bearings greased. The mechanic didn’t want to even charge us, but we gave him a $20 to buy the guys some coffee and doughnuts.
The drive wasn’t that scenic, but we caught up on finances and podcasts.
As we start to shift our daily schedule back to eastern time, we’re finding ourselves very hungry early in the day. We were ready for lunch around 9 AM this morning.
We arrived at the Riverside State Park - Bowl & Pitcher. The campground is nice, not too full, and we had a spot down near the Spokane River. It’s very dry and dusty here with a fire ban in effect - when we look out the window, we feel like we’re in the Southwest region, definitely not Washington. It’s quite the opposite from the rainforests and humidity we’ve been living in for the past few weeks between Vancouver Island and Olympic National Park.
It was HOT today… the hottest it’s been all trip by 10+ degrees. It reached 97 F, so we were thankful to have an electric hookup so that we can run the air conditioner.
We checked out the river, caught up on a few things around camp, went for a short trail walk and ate leftover steak with Greek salad and a pack of ramen noodles for dinner
We went down to the river to fish in the evening. Matt went wet wading to try and cool off. We had our eye on a nice section of tail water, but a couple of youngsters hogged the beach access across from it.
We caught a little creek chub and small rainbow. Fish were rising, so we’re going to go with dries tomorrow.
Before bed, we made a bag of popcorn. Oslo may have lightning reflexes when it comes to the ball, but don’t think he quite understands the physics of falling objects… as the popcorn kernel floats down toward his face, he swipes at it a way too early and misses it every time.
