Oslo’s got stinky breath

Forks, Washington > Monroe, Washington

  • Our campsite is surrounded by thick foliage, tall trees and ferns, so even with the window shades retracted, we don’t get much sunlight in the camper. It makes mornings tougher to get out of bed, we’ve noticed.

  • This was our last day in Forks, and we survived the primitive site without electricity. We almost got so desperate for coffee that we momentarily considered plugging the Keurig into the truck at the risk of blowing a fuse.

  • We walked down to the Sol Duc river and casually packed up, hooked up and headed out. We stopped at the Bogachiel State Park to dump for a steep $5 fee.

  • We worked our way toward Seattle, drove right through downtown, passing the T-Mobile stadium where the Mariners play and got stuck in a little rush hour traffic. We stopped at the Petco in Lynwood to refill Oslo’s dog food - we were just shy of enough to last the rest of the trip home. We picked out a cookie and a box of dental chews to combat Oslo’s recent stinky breath. The cashier gave us 20% the chews for the damaged box and didn’t even charge us for the biscuit since it was too light to register on the scale. We love freebies and discounts these days.

  • We made it to Thunderbird RV Park, selected a sight across the road, along the Skykomish River and set up camp. Our steaks were still frozen solid and we didn’t have the patience to let them thaw, so we pulled out a pound of ground beef and made burgers again.

  • We checked out the river and noticed the strangest looking fruit(?) growing - it kind of looked like a soft green dragonfruit.

  • The campground has several amenities, including a red barn clubhouse, two pools and hot tub and shuffleboard. We looked up the rules and gave it our all in a heated competition. Matt won round 1; Liz won round 2 - the tiebreaker will commence tomorrow.

  • Campground: Thunderbird RV Park
