Matt hooked a big one!
Spokane, Washington
We celebrated pancake day a day early since we’ll have to get up early, make a quick and easy breakfast and pack up tomorrow morning.
We got out on the river early, anticipating the unbearable afternoon heat. We fished a new section of river below the lookout. Liz caught five rainbows, the biggest was 17 inches, and Matt caught one on stone flies and pheasant tails.
Once the sun crested over the hills, the fishing turned off and we went back to our air conditioned camper to cool off. We had lunch and went into Spokane in search of ice cream. We went to The Scoop and tried the following flavors: cheese plate, raspberry parade, Nutella and salted caramel - probably the best ice cream we’ve had all trip. The small batch ice cream was unique - raspberry parade had frosted animal cookies and sprinkles, and cheese plate had goat cheese, cashews, apricot and figs. We also tried their homemade waffle bowl and bubble waffle, which was basically like a Belgian waffle and waffle cone love child.
We food prepped our proteins for the rest of trip to make dinners easy after a long drive, and we did a little planning for Norway. We reached out to several fly guides and lodges so we can hit the Atlantic salmon run in August.
We had greek bowls for dinner and lounged in our camping chairs for the evening. We did a little pre-packing and then went down to the river to cast a a dry. Oslo snuck in his last swim and Matt hooked himself right on the tip of the nose. Thankfully, it was a small hook!
