SPAM!

Lupton, Michigan > Midland, Michigan

  • We woke up and joined dad to make breakfast. On the menu this morning was fried eggs, homemade pancakes, fried potatoes, bacon and our first taste of Spam (Lite). Dad’s friend, Mike, has been recommending it for years. Needless to say, we were all a bit skeptical, especially as dad pried the ham-bologna-pate looking meat from the can. After he sliced into patties and fried it in butter, it looked edible enough. To be honest, it was actually pretty good.

  • We went outside to wash the bikes and re-lube the chains. After driving thousands of miles, it took a tough brush and a little elbow grease to scrub off the coat of bugs from the front.

  • We packed up the truck and headed to Midland. After stopping at the house, we went to the storage unit to organize all of our belongings and pull out a few extra items for our next part of the trip. Low and behold, the totes we needed to access were at the bottom and deep into the back corner.

  • We took advantage of the beautiful summer night and had dinner on the patio - classic American hamburgers, hotdogs, coleslaw and potato salad. Jay, Trish, Porter and Flynn stopped by for a visit. Oslo and Flynn really hit it off and wrestled all over the yard.

  • We continued getting ready for the backyard BBQ on Saturday, cleaned out the fridge and enjoyed a shower that wasn’t constrained by a five gallon hot water tank.

  • Accommodations: Bill & Renee’s House
