Happy birthday!

Midland, Michigan

  • It was Matt’s birthday! 36 years old - almost forty as Liz always says.

  • We got up and prepped the house and yard for the party tomorrow.

  • We were packing up the deep freezer from Jay & Trish’s when Oslo misplaced his ball. As we searched for it, Oslo noticed the black lab shaped flower box on the porch and thought it looked suspicious. He investigated, barked at it, sniffed it and finally realized it wasn’t real.

  • Matt finally trimmed his beard. It’s nice to be able to see his lips after they’ve been hiding behind his unruly mustache for weeks.

  • We met Sarah, Mark and baby Blair at the Dow Garden Canopy Walk. Long overdue, it was the first time we’d seen them since the beginning of the pandemic and our first time meeting our new one-year-old niece. The property was lush and perfectly landscaped. The canopy structures towered as high as the trees with unique architectural designs. Blair may have seemed a bit shy at first, but quickly proved me wrong. She cruised up and down the boardwalks, happiest when independently standing on her own two feet and squirmed around when swooped up into mom and dad’s arms. We went downtown for dinner and ate at Witchcraft Brewery. The service was slow, but that just gave us more time to catch up, so no complaints… plus they gave us 50% off our bill.

  • When we got back to the house, we caught up with Harry, Cathy, Jay, Trish and the dogs outside before they headed off to bed.

  • Accommodations: Bill & Renee’s House
