Who let the dogs out?!

Cameron, MT (West Yellowstone) > Canmore, Alberta (Bow River)

  • Today was our longest drive so far - we left Cameron, MT early and started our trek to Canmore, Alberta

  • We ran into a few delays that extended our 9-hour drive to 12 hours

  • We stopped at Home Depot to repurchase the things we left at the Home Depot in Idaho Falls; Oslo attempted to mark a stack of five gallon buckets

  • Walgreens, Henry Ford, Express Scripts and BCBS all proved that the we have a broken healthcare system - 15 calls later and we finally picked up a prescription in Helena, MT

  • We used up our Starbucks gift cards and shared a couple of sweet drinks

  • Stopped in Browning, MT to fill up the truck; a sweet dog approached - his fur was dirty, but he was very sweet and rolled over for a free belly rub; he was wearing a collar with a spay/neuter and vaccine tag … we called to retrieve his name (Hachi) the owner’s contact information, but it was outdated

  • Suddenly, another dog emerged from the adjacent grocery store parking lot… and then another … and another

  • Liz pulled out Oslo’s dog food to share

  • All of the stray dogs were docile and sweet

  • We were about to take one home (or all of them), but learned that this is a very common problem on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation

  • We left them behind with a parting gift - pork chomps for all! Though they weren’t quite sure what to do with them

  • Finally made it to Canmore and set up camp

  • Our neighbor (Cathy) stopped by and introduced her 20-month old mixed Labrador and Norwegian ridgeback (Tucker) - it was wrestle mania in the grass

  • Capped off the night was a hot bowl of ramen noodles

  • Campground: Bow River Campground
