Oslo’s Baptism

Cameron, MT (West Yellowstone)

  • Woke up at 4 AM to the sound of hail and thunder outside

  • After falling back asleep, we slept in a bit and went for our morning walk

  • Dumped our trash at a nearby state campground

  • Drove to the east side of Earthquake Lake where the Madison flows through

  • Stopped for a group of bighorn sheep crossing the road

  • Just as we started fishing, we noticed a family of mountain goats climbing to the top of the cliff above the river

  • As we were crossing the river, Matt was helping Oslo through the deep, fast current when he tripped on a rock, face planted and took a swim and ‘baptized’ Oslo - “I was holding onto his collar and couldn’t let go before I put my hands down in the water to catch myself, which dunked his head underwater”

  • We finally made it across and fished the whole afternoon, catching 10-15 trout and several whitefish; nicest was a 22-inch cutbow; Matt also lost a nice brown

  • Oslo was strutting his mountain goat abilities as he ran up and down the sides of the rock faces with ease

  • Campground: Hipcamp (Raynolds Pass / Cameron, Montana)
