The other Niagara Falls

Victoria, British Columbia (Vancouver Island)

  • Started with our weekend tradition - Saturday pancakes! Our stomachs were a bit more reasonable this time, letting us sleep in until 6 AM

  • Out of the three of us, Oslo won the most tired competition of the morning

  • We planned our final week and half of the US / Canada trip through July - we plan to split our time at Port Angeles, Forks and Spokane

  • Finally left the campground in the early afternoon for an overdue bike ride at Bear Mountain (“mountain” is generous - it was more of a large hill next to a golf course that sat in the valley); we attempted the downhill flow track and got smacked in the face by several overgrown bushes and plants that made the ride less than enjoyable… if only someone would groom it once in a while! Liz ditched it before the last run and got a head start on the 1-mile uphill climb; we were both severely out of breath and hearts were thumping after the climb (with several breaks along the way)

  • Picked up Oslo from the camper and joined the Brown clan for a Fourth of July and birthday celebration for Molly - we desperately wished we were physically there for cake and ice cream

  • Drove over to Goldstream Provincial Park and followed the short path / dried up river bed to Niagara Falls (the lesser known compared to its big brother in Ontario)

  • Liz felt compelled to get more steps in for the day, so she ran along the visitor center trail with Matt accompanying on bike and Oslo jogging alongside; we stopped to pick salmon berries that weren’t quite ripe - a little bitter but still tasty

  • Went back to camp for chicken taco bowls and a campfire

  • Campground: Malahat Mountain Meadows RV Park
