Michigan Summary

Saturday, August 27th - Saturday, September 10th: Ann Arbor, Michigan

  • After returning home, we took a little hiatus from our blog posts. There wasn’t a tremendous amount to write about anyways. We contracted COVID, and then infected the entire family. We each experienced similar symptoms with different degrees of discomfort over the course of a week. The Plaxovid medication significantly improved our condition, but the bitter taste it left in our mouths was unbearable. We masked the taste with a constant stream of candy to coat our tongues in sugar and artificial coloring. Even after the last dose of Paxlovid, we kept up the bad habits and nightly snack routine… so many cool ranch Doritos, sour gummies, popcorn and other candy.

  • We took Oslo and Tor for daily walks through Ann Arbor, sometimes through central campus and around the stadium for the first game of the season. The boys wrestled often and we frequented the dog park, meeting all of the furry friends: Darrow, Milo, Louie, Obi, Hunter, Freddie, Gypsy, etc. Oslo taught Tor how to be a couch dog. Oslo’s favorite spot in the house quickly became under Alec’s bed.

  • Oslo grew accustomed to his morning teeth brushing routine. His facial expression showed obedience, tolerance and zero enjoyment.

  • We went to the gym regularly - both Planet Fitness and LA Fitness (where Matt misplaced his air pods).

  • We decided we cannot live in Ann Arbor… because of the poor lawn care and lack of landscaping. Each house had its own variety of overgrown bushes and weeds that spilled out onto the sidewalk. There was only one neatly trimmed lawn, and it belonged to a golfer.

  • We went to Schultz’s Outfitters and Motor City Anglers to pick up new gear, and we were instantly reminded of how much we hate the elitist culture and poor customer service at the former. Never again will we give them business.

  • We watched several movies and TV shows in the basement on the new projector: Mind Hunter, The Rings of Power, Top Gun 2, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Paddington 1 and 2, etc.

  • We made something tasty for dinner every night… lots of Mexican, Greek bowls, pork chops, elote, fried brussel sprouts, steak, dad’s famous smashed potatoes, etc. We also ordered out a couple of times: Mancino’s and Condado Tacos + Crumble Cookies (the best being the French toast and everything bagel)

  • We had a few epic nerf shootouts that often left Matt wounded with welts on his body.

  • We cleaned our ears with the Bebird device, scraping wax from our ear canals, popping black heads and spending hours trying to dig out the giant clump of dried ear wax that was blocking my entire ear drum on both sides
