Packing up in the rain isn’t my favorite
Wednesday, August 17th: Geiranger, Norway > Alesund, Norway
We woke up to rain hitting our tent, packed up and started making our way to Alesund.
We stopped at the Fjellstua viewpoint on Mount Aksla with panoramic views of the city. The same cruise ship we saw in Geiranger had followed us here, so loads of tourists piled onto the the buses as we arrived.
We walked around town and visited the fisheries museum. It displayed a lot of interesting artifacts and information… but it was all in Norwegian. The guy that manned the reception and sold us our tickets failed to mention there were no English placards. At the top level, there was one new exhibit about the pilots that boarded ship to safely bring them into port - at last, something with English translations. We visited their old sailboat docked outside the museum.
We checked into our AirB&B for the night, which was the basement guest house with a twin bed in the living room. We grabbed a few snacks from the grocery store, mainly from their 10 NOK ($1) section, including more brown cheese, salami, cheese doodles, butter and a couple of pastries. We made grilled cheese sandwiches and beef with mac & cheese for dinner.
