Reeejected!
Thursday, August 18th: Alesund, Norway > Trondheim, Norway
We left our AirB&B and made the 5+ hour drive to Trondheim. The scenery was a bit more green and the mountains were covered in coniferous trees with more farmland in the lowlands. We took two ferries, each about 20 minutes, along the journey.
We arrived in Trondheim and walked through the city. It’s the third largest in Norway with 200,000 people. It felt like a real city with more locals than tourists, whereas Bergen felt the opposite. There were what we assumed to be university students everywhere and the city felt alive. We encountered our first crosswalk since being here in Norway. It felt like a very liveable place with cafes on every corner and at the aches of boutique retail shops and good restaurants. We sought out the cafe Olav Svanhild in search of a passion fruit dessert. We arrived and enjoyed a passionate fruit cake, which was like a passionfruit mousse (slightly denser) on top with a light chocolate cake underneath, and some sort of sweet bun with strawberry preserves and a streusel on top.
We tried to book an AirB&B to do laundry, but both attempts led to rejected bookings because the host couldn’t get the condo ready in time. So we drove 10 minutes outside of the city and camped at Storsand Gard campground.
