At least the lodge had good food
Tuesday, August 23rd: Grong, Norway
It was day three of fishing and our last. We enjoyed breakfast at the lodge and decided to fish on our own in the morning. Hans was in school and Kjell was useless. We started at Olehus… nothing.
We went back to the lodge for lunch and finish packing up the room. We checked out and anticipated an incorrect invoice. They charged us double the rate for guided fishing, charged us for Kjell’s time (even though we paid him directly the night before) and charged us for the boat transportation that Hans said was included in our package. We went over each line item and waited for them to figure it out. At least they didn’t charge us for the rod rentals at $60 per rod per day or the flies.
We went back to the stretch where I caught her first fish and made a few passes through. I hooked one on a skating fly, saw the fish rise, but it didn’t run right away and sat there. I set the hook and the skandy line got caught in the eyes as the fish swam toward me and I tried to reel up and he came off.
We went in for dinner and ordered off the menu. We tried the elk burger and re-ordered the cod. We also tried the last two remaining desserts of the menu: ice cream with cloud berries and warm apple cake.
We paid for 4 hours of guide time for the evening, expecting Hans to meet us like we agreed the day before. He didn’t show until 7:30 PM and offered to fish with us after dinnner.
We fished at Boat House, just downstream from the lodge. Matt caught his second smolt.
We checked into the same ski lodge condo in Grong, put on The Gray Man and went to bed.
