Oia sunrise

Saturday, September 24th: Santorini, Greece > Crete, Greece

  • We finally made it up in time to catch the sunrise in Oia. We waited in a short line to capture our pictures of the village and blue domes. The streets were quiet and nothing was open yet.

  • We went back to Thalassia for breakfast and shared an omelet after caffeinating ourselves. With a couple of hours to kill, we decided to just go back to the AirB&B and then grab an early lunch at a local place in Emporio. We dropped off Michaela at the ferry port, which was bustling with tourists coming and going. She filed into the long line with her luggage and we headed back to pick up our own.

  • We still had a few hours before boarding our ferry to Crete, so we sat at a bakery and caught up on a few administrative items.

  • We took the Minoan Lines ferry to Crete in the afternoon, arrived in Heraklion, stopped at a grocery store and checked into our studio apartment for the night. Crete has a much different feel to it compared to the other islands - for starters, it’s more tropical and the size of a small country at over 3,000 square miles… even the grocery stores are larger.

  • We made dinner and caught up on The Rings of Power.

  • Accommodations: AirB&B, Heraklion, Crete Greece
