Zucchini balls

Thursday, September 22nd: Santorini, Greece

  • We took advantage of a more relaxed morning and were in no rush to get out the door. We returned to the Perissa beach for lunch at Afros (calamari, gyro plate, Greek salad) and then lounged on the beach. We rented an umbrella set and they threw in an extra chair with an ottoman. The breeze was much stronger, making it a comfortable temperature to sip mocktails and listen to the waves. The beach seemed to be winding down for the season.

  • We drove over to the red beach before sunset and walked along the shore. Then we went into the village of Fira for dinner (Elia). We finally tried the zucchini balls that we had passed up several times, and they were delicious - fried zucchini patties with hints of dill and mint.

  • The village was very lively at night. Shops stayed open late. People were dining on restaurant terraces.

  • We popped into a cafe that was displaying their desserts - it looked … and tasted … very average.

  • Accommodations: AirB&B, near Emporio, Santorini, Greece
