Oslo’s first day of school

Cody, WY (East Yellowstone National Park)

  • Dropped off Oslo at Cody Country Bed & Biscuit for daycare - it was like dropping him off for his first day of school

  • First trip into Yellowstone National Park - spent the day on the east side

  • Started off with a grizzly sighting about 300 yards away - it was hard to see on top of the hill and amongst the dead trees (but the binoculars were a huge help); met a retiring engineer that worked on Fisherman’s Bridge and captured some great shots of the bear (and other grizzlies in Dubois)

  • Drove alongside Yellowstone Lake

  • Stopped for a black bear foraging for springtime snacks

  • Stopped at Fisherman’s Bridge; a bison also wanted to take the dry path across the river

  • Stopped at Mud Volcano where a herd of bison were meandering through the parking lot, near the hot springs and along the hiking path

  • Drove through Hayden’s Valley and saw a few bison swimming across the river

  • Observed two elk (cows) in a snow covered pasture

  • Drove the north and south rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, stopping at several overlooks and short hikes (Upper Falls Brink, Uncle Tom’s Trail, Artist Point, Lower Falls Brink, Inspiration Point)

  • Saw a small bull elk with velvet

  • Spotted a mountain goat outside of the park

  • Averaged 32 mpg on the way out of the park

  • Campground: Absaroka Bay RV Park
