Presidents, begging burros and a blizzard

Interior, SD > Cody, WY (East Yellowstone National Park) 

  • Left the Badlands early for our long haul to get to Cody, Wyoming - the first of our three campsites around Grand Teton and Yellowstone 

  • Visited Mount Rushmore, walked the Presidential Trail 

  • Drove through Custer State Park, looking for the begging burros and a herd of bison

  • Oslo was surprisingly mild mannered when meeting the burros that beelined for our truck in search of their next snack 

  • A woman passed us corn puff treats to feed them; we also shared our road-trip snacks (clementine, apple, banana and hotdog bun) 

  • Saw several lazy bison graze alongside the road, including a few calves 

  • Drove along Highway 16 through a blizzard in Bighorn National Forest; went up to 10K feet above sea level and dropped to about 30 degrees 

  • Oslo had a blast romping around in the snow

  • Campground: Absaroka Bay RV Park
