The Night Before Fishmas
Monday, October 24th: Loreto > Esquina, Argentina
We packed up and had breakfast at the Posada. As we were checking out, our host gave us three small woven dolls that were about the size of an index finger – one for each of us. Then we were off to Esquina, six hours away.
We pulled into Posada de Muelles and entered our small casita that reminded us of the Namsentunet. It had an abundance of beds for the three of us with four on the main floor and two more twins in the loft. The grounds were neatly kept and very peaceful with a swimming pool, outdoor cooking area, dining room and observation deck over the water. Similar to the other villages we’ve visited, happy dogs roamed freely and greeted us with wagging tails. We were starving and talking about what to do for lunch when God answered us with a knock at the door. A woman was standing there with an empanada delivery. Perfect timing.
We had a few hours before dinner, so we walked into town in search of a Western Union, restaurant for lunch and grocery store. We struck out on two of the three. The only Western Union in town was closed, as well as all of the restaurants, so we nourished ourselves with baked goods.
We couldn’t resist visiting the local fly shop (not just once but three times in two days). We picked up our fishing licenses, admired all the fly rods and picked up a few other things. Just like the fly shop in Buenos Aires, the shop owners gave us “regalos” – a free fly and sticker.
We met Gustavo for dinner at the posada where we had milanesa, salad, warm rolls and an ice cream bar with dulce de leche for dessert.
After dinner, we went to the casino to exchange dollars for pesos, but they only offered the official (not blue dollar) rate.
We turned in for the night, only lie sleepless in bed, like kids the night before Christmas, except we are adults, and it’s the night before Fishmas
