Old Unfaithful

Cameron, MT (West Yellowstone)

  • First day at a HipCamp site - it’s a private residence that has 2 full hookup sites on their property

  • Rough start to the day, as the drinking hose was already in use and we didn’t have a 50>30 amp. … we also realized we left one of our bags at Home Depot (epoxy, funnel, hose adapter… fortunately, we remembered the bag with the important stuff - candy and Pringles). Once we got that take care of, we were off and running.

  • Stopped at three dollar bridge on the Madison river. There were a lot of people fishing, we’ll be a couple of them tomorrow.

  • Drove along the Madison on our way into Yellowstone, looks like a great river to fish (connects Earthquake Lake and Hebgen Lake)

  • Stopped at Madison River Outfitters and picked up some good tips on fly selection and fishing spots

  • Stopped at Firehole Falls

  • Drove along the Gibbon / Firehole / Madison - flat grassland banks

  • Continued on to Grand Prismatic Spring and took a stroll on the boardwalk

  • Made it to Old Faithful just 10 minutes before the next expected eruption: we were in a sea of other tourists and stood around waiting in anticipation until about 3:39 PM (19 minutes after its predicted blow)

  • We visited the Old Faithful Inn - the woodwork and architecture inside was incredible and has stood the test of time

  • We skipped Mammoth Hot Springs and headed back to camp

  • Went for a short bike ride down the gravel road

  • Campground: Hipcamp (Raynolds Pass / Cameron, Montana)
