Welcome to Washington!

Bellingham, Washington > Elwah, Washington

  • After being jolted awake several times throughout the night from the sound of semi trucks pulling in and out beside us, we packed up and left the rest stop in the morning

  • We did our grocery shopping at Walmart - probably our last big haul for the rest of the trip; we got everything we needed except for tzatziki, which has been a bit difficult to find throughout our trip… surprisingly

  • We were forced to take the long way to the Port Angeles area - the alternative was to board a ferry; we passed Seattle and Tacoma, stopping for gas and propane refills (not exchanges)

  • We checked into our campsite at the Elwah Dam RV Park - though the campsites are packed in tight, the grounds are well kept and they have a nice garden and greenhouse where guests can pick herbs and vegetables for free

  • We rode our bikes to where the Elwah Dam used to stand before is was removed in 1992 for ecosystem restoration; the river was roaring below us

  • We drove to Safeway in our ongoing quest for tzatziki, but they didn’t have any; we opted to make it from scratch, but they didn’t have any fresh dill; we resorted to buying dried dill weed and hoped the RV park garden would have fresh dill available… they did, but it wasn’t ready for picking and lacked the distinct smell or taste of dill; we made our tzatziki with Greek bowls for dinner and it turned out okay… hoping the flavors marinade over night

  • Campground: Elwah Adam RV Park
