Canada’s newest surf dog

Tofino, British Columbia (Vancouver Island)

  • Woke up and made our Saturday pancakes and took a short nap with happy bellies

  • Around lunchtime we went over to Long Beach Surf Shop in downtown Tofino to rent boards and wetsuits for the day; we opted for the hard tops (after trying the soft tops yesterday) for a little more control on the waves

  • We went back to Cox Bay Beach and took turns catching waves (two to three footers) while the other person kept Oslo occupied; when he wasn’t playing fetch on shore, he would sit on the surfboard with us and watch for mom or dad coming in to shore (and falling into the whitewash);

  • Oslo eventually got comfortable enough sitting on the board that we could take him out to the deeper water and hang while the other person waited to catch waves. Oslo and Matt even road a wave into shore, Matt on his belly and Oslo on the front of the board hangin 4 (paws).

  • A woman was onshore taking photos of a private lesson, but couldn’t resist Oslo’s cuteness and captured shots of him for their Instagram - we’re anxiously awaiting the post and email with images

  • As we were returning the gear to the surf shop, Maya and her mom pulled in next to us - she was in our surf lesson the day before; she went to Long a beach and said the waves were a bit bigger (should have gone there!)

  • Went to Tofino Licks - an ice cream shop in a shipping container, but they were closed to clean up a spill…so we headed back to camp for dinner

  • We couldn’t resist going back to Tofino Licks … it was worth it; they offer soft serve ice cream with toppings and sauces from other local shops - we got (1) chocolate vanilla swirl with the Tacofino Diablo cookie (chocolate cookie with chili and ginger) and strawberry sauce and (2) vanilla with Fanny’s dark chocolate & Skor cookie dough and raspberry sauce … both in waffle cones, of course

  • Capped off the night with a movie - Morbius; the beach resort rents them out for free!
