El Chalten
Tuesday, November 1st: El Calafate > El Chalten, Argentina
We left El Calafate and drove the 3.5 hours El Chalten. Our last 30 minutes on the road gave us a sneak peak of the panoramic views of Fitz Roy, Marmot, Poincenot, etc.
We arrived at our MerKaba AirB&B, which had a Jewish, hippy, yoga vibe to it.
The town is even smaller than El Calafate with one gas station on the edge of city, several charming restaurants and bakeries and a few small supermarkets that had questionable produce.
We started to realize English as a second language is more common here in the Patagonia region than the northern part of the country, even in the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires.
We hiked to the Condor and Eagle lookout points for a quick reintroduction to hiking after spending weeks in Greece and northern Argentina where hiking options were limited. We immediately felt out of shape and knew we only had a week to condition ourselves before the W.
We made chicken legs and Greek salad for dinner and packed our camping gear for the next day.
