Vettifoss

Sunday, August 14th: Aurland, Norway > Utladalen, Norway

  • We got up a little late and missed our chance to do the Galdhopiggen hike, so we ate our leftover sweet cardamom rolls (sjokoladeboller) and packed up.

  • We drove through the Laerdal Tunnel, the longest road tunnel in the world stretching 24.5 KM.

  • We went to Jotunheimen National Park and hiked to Vettifoss - Norway’s tallest waterfall. Most of the trail was packed gravel with some gradual inclines that followed the river, and then the last kilometer took us past a farm, into the woods and over steep rocks. We climbed around the base of the waterfall to try and get an unobstructed view, had a snack and hiked / jogged back. Along the way, we stopped for several patches of wild raspberries and strawberries.

  • We set up camp nearby in Utladalen.

  • Meanwhile Oslo has been acclimating to getting his teeth brushed in the morning. Mom said he didn’t enjoy it at first, but he’s more comfortable with it now.

  • Campground: Utladalen Camping
