$10 dash and smash

Thursday, August 11th: Etne, Norway > Leirvik, Norway

  • We enjoyed the morning sun outside of our tent and sat around our cooktop sharing a lot of oatmeal in the morning. We packed up and headed back to the fjord for a little fishing. Matt caught a fish that looked like a bass-perch-sunfish combo and it took us quite a bit of research to identify the species. It was a Wrasse, which is a cleaner fish commonly used in farm fishing to mitigate spread of lice and diseases. The pod of dolphins came in again, porpoising often, and we watched them cruise around the fjord.

  • We drove to Leirvik and checked into our AirB&B in desperate need of doing laundry and charging our electronics. We FaceTimed with Oslo while he continued to enjoy camping life with my parents in Marquette. He had just finished a morning walk and dad was cooking breakfast on the Blackstone.

  • It felt weird to not have any major plans for the afternoon. We even felt a little guilty. But then we embraced the down time to relax and indulged in our new tradition, called the “$10 dash and smash” … we went to the Kiwi supermarket and had a $10 budget to get sweet and salty snacks. We left with chimichurri chips, a Troika bar (chocolate, truffle, jelly, marzipan), bulk gummies, a Coke Zero lime and stroopwafels. We turned on the Adam Sandler movie, Hustle, and chowed.

  • Accommodation: AirB&B, Leirvik
