Michaela’s here!
Thursday, September 15th: Athens, Greece
We woke up late, rolling out of bed at 11:00 AM. We casually got ready for the day and drove an hour outside of the city (on three toll roads) to Corinth.
We first stopped at the Corinth Canal and walked along both sides of the bridge. We tracked the ships getting ready to make their way through the canal and waited to watch. We saw a freighter and a parade of personal sailboats and small yachts make their way through.
We had much at Veranta and sat on the terrace that overlooked the ruins and Temple of Apollo. We had pork skewers, tzatziki and saganaki. Several stray kitty cats wandered from table to table looking for scraps - one jumped up onto our empty chair to peer at our spread. Against our better judgement, we shared.
We didn’t have much time to explore the ruins, so we made our way back toward Athens. We picked up Michaela from the airport and we rode back to the AirB&B.
We were planning to take Michaela to our local gyro shop, but checked out a new restaurant instead. We ordered what seemed to be a reasonable amount of food for three people… but by the time everything arrived, we had no visible space left on our table. We had a Greek salad, a mixed salad with halloumi and balsamic, tzatziki, fried cheese rolls with some sort of marmalade, moussaka and feta tomato sausages. We were stuffed at the end of the meal and the host brought us an on-the-house dessert with ice cream that tasted like banana Laffy Taffy and a digestive liquor called Mastika (it originates from the island of Chios). As we were leaving, the restaurant was just filling up for a late dinner.
