Fish on!

Kelly, WY (Grand Teton National Park)

  • Today was the first nice day since we arrived in Grand Teton; partly sunny and 60s; you could finally see the mountain range below the clouds

  • We stopped at the Snake River Anglers shop to get our fishing licenses and replenish our fly supply; the guys working gave us some great information on where to fish below the Jackson Lake dam

  • We started downstream on a couple nice seams, but only produced one small cutthroat (our first ever! but snagged)

  • We fished closer to the dam… and nothing

  • Around 5:00 we moved to the other side of the river and it turned on quickly!

  • Matt caught a BEAUTIFUL cutthroat and 5 lb. / 25 inch resident brown + several whitefish

  • Liz caught a lake trout (which are also called Mackinaw as we learned today), a huge sucker and several whitefish

  • We nymphed and caught the majority of the fish on a new pink bead head fly (can’t remember the name) (the pattern was great, but the quality of the fly was horrendous… 20 casts and it unravels entirely)

  • The two guys closer to the dam were crushing it; stripping leeches

  • Campground: Gros Ventre Campground
