Empanadas and Freddo
Sunday, October 9th: Buenos Aires, Argentina
The mornings are getting colder and our bodies haven’t quite adjusted from the climate in Greece. We took a morning walk along the riverfront, had breakfast in the lounge and packed up our hotel room. We went to two Jumbo supermarkets in Palermo (near our AirB&B) to get groceries, but we still haven’t quite figured out how to apply coupons and discounts. The second store was huge and very similar to the super stores we have in the U.S. like Walmart.
We bought new power adapters and stood in the check-out for way too long at the pharmacy to buy protein.
We were surprised by the prices here - generally, they’re comparable to the U.S. rather than the affordable prices in Greece. Some items seemed to be heavily discounted, but others you may even pay a premium. For example, you can get to-go empanadas for $0.70 apiece, which is a steal. But when we visited the Nike outlet today, sneakers were between $225-$375.
After checking into the AirB&B, which is a pretty basic space without much for amenities, we walked around the retail shops, made a Greek salad (it’s not the same as when we were in the birthplace of Greek salads), bought a variety of empanadas from BigPizzaBig and got ice cream from Freddo (dulce de leche classic, with oreos and passionfruit with orange).
Oslo and Tor have been hanging out at Bill and Renee’s house while Emily was out of town for the weekend. Based on the photos and videos we received, they are having a great time!
